The SupersHot on the trail of their warmly received debut disc Spklang, The Supers have got hits galore and charisma to spare with as they release their latest offering entitled Mystery At Pop Mountain.
Dealing out tight and crunchy hook- heavy power pop, The Supers make it all look so easy - which of course it's not - as they barrel through their material that has you knowing the tunes and singing along before the first chorus.
With critics saying "The Supers are pop spelled p - o - p not c - r - a - p...," they're a must see for those wanting for a return to Costelloesque craftmanship and Beatlesesque harmonies all wrapped up in a neat package that fits our age of straight faced irony. Paying homage to the genre with class, The Supers are finding their rightful place in the pop spotlight.
BIO
High school chums Maury LaFoy (bass, vocalS and Graham Powell (guitar, vocalsS have been creating great pop music together for several years. Their previous incarnation Fall Down Go Boom had them opening for: Sarah McLachlan, BareNaked Ladies, Ron Sexsmith, Randy Bachman, Squeeze, Fountains of Wayne, Moxy Fruvous, and Chris Spedding all over Canada and the US. As songwriting matured, members Tim Bovaconti (guitarS and Jeff Macpherson (drumsetS joined the fray and, lo and behold, The Supers were born.
The new members and moniker fueled the fire that is Spklanng!, the Supers' debut CD produced by Michael-Phillip Wojewoda (of BareNaked Ladies and Reostatics fameS. It is 12 tracks of inspired power pop that reviewers can't get enough of:
"Musically, the Supers have a lot in common with some of the top bands in the genre, in that every song is a straightforward, catchy pop tune that gets better with every listen. There's not much to complain about - none of the 12 songs could be described as weak and there's a real hummability present. Spklanng! is a very, very good album." - Michael Edwards, Exclaim!
"Playing pop is a tricky thing; few do it well, many more shouldn't be doing it all. The Supers, hailing from Toronto, are among the participants in the genre that definitely belong in it. Their debut Spklanng! is an appealing and brisk collection that both showcases the band's talents and gives power pop a much-needed recharge." - Eric Layton, Entertainment Today
The album was released unofficially June 1999 and since then The Supers have been playing regularly and selling 1000+ units.
