Seize The Day
we're sixteen years old
It's February, and time once again for our annual orgy of self-congratulation.
On February 13, 1988 C'est What opened its doors with a mandate to promote "true local flavour." We have tripled in both size and selection but sixteen years and two expansions later we continue to showcase the excellence found in our community, qualities found in everything we do from our selection of food and drink to the talent featured in our music room nia.
Raise a glass (or a fork) to us on Friday February 13 and you'll walk away with a birthday party "loot bag" full of neat stuff. Some lucky folks will find one of our extra special prizes in their sack. We are giving away sixteen special prizes: four pairs of tickets to our upcoming rum tasting, four dinner & show for two coupons, four pool parties including two table rentals and a spread of appetizers, and four vouchers good for a free lunch every week for sixteen weeks.
So seize the day, thirteen is our lucky number.

Carribean Dreaming
rum tasting
The novelty has worn off and even avid skiers are starting to wish that the white powdery stuff was sand and not snow. We have a cure for those third month of winter blues: A rum tasting. Hey, for under thirty dollars it's a lot more affordable than the flight south and we won't subject you to the body cavity search either.
Here's the itinerary: Your adventure begins Wednesday March 10 at 7:00 p.m. To avoid being left behind please arrive up to one hour early. There are ten stops including the little seen Appleton 21 yr., Mount Gay Extra Old, and what tour would be complete without Newfie Screech.
Reserved tickets are available for $27.50 (all taxes and charges included) online.

Scotch Tasting Results
The birth of Scotland's second most famous export, Robbie Burns, was celebrated with a selection of the first most famous.
The capacity crowd of honorary Celts found little that disagreed with the palate but did show some distinct preferences with the eight year old Islay Dun Bheagan topping the field with a median score of 24.0. Runner up was the Glenlivet 18 (Speyside).
A full tabulation of results are available online.

"What a nice find here in Canada's Andrea Florian, with her self described eclectic folk that should find a home in the collection of any Tori Amos or Jewel fan." - cdreviews.com
Andrea Florian is joined by Andrew Spice whose unique sound has evolved while absorbing the beats and bravery of artists like Radiohead, Tori Amos, Nine Inch Nails, and Massive Attack. The result is an inspired new songwriter, who with only a piano and his voice, emotes a timeless quality. His songs go where other artists fear to tread, and the vulnerability in his writing is the sort that gives the listener a soft place to fall, a quiet assurance that we are not alone in our sometimes uncertain human experience.
Advance tickets are available for this show which also features VSH's Elana Harte on Saturday February 14.

Electric Meat is the name of a band that is busy extending the fine tradition of The Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews, Phish et al. They delve into a vast catalogue of jammy rock digging the instrumental riffing-well deeper while they expand their repertoire of already roots flavoured rock tunes into full on 15 minute live remixes...a jam band.
Advance tickets are available for this Friday February 20 show with Jacob Two Two also performing.
Armed with an acoustic guitar and his aching gravely drawl, twangy troubadour Shannon Lyon effortlessly shows the way to where the true path of alt-country lies. Somewhere in the heart of Canada.
With rave reviews like; ...an acoustic jewel in high standing... or ...Shannon was the solo gunman who filled the room with a stunning set of music that lovers love to and broken hearts break to..., its the purity and rawness of Lyons songwriting and delivery that are touching audiences and critics alike.
If youre interested in being totally blown away by the power of song, catching Lyon live is highly recommended.
Advance tickets are available for his show with Andrew Walker on Saturday February 21. Advance ticket holders will receive a free copy of our indie compilation CD Local Flavour 2003 featuring the song In All Honesty by Shannon Lyon.

In a time when most music is just a contrived marketing campaign, Stratochief are both real and magic. Fronted by four of Toronto's best singers, this powerhouse eight-piece includes veterans Scott B. Sympathy, James Grayb (Blue Rodeo), Tim Bovaconti (Ron Sexsmith) and Terry Wilkins (Rough Trade).
Stratochief has a sound that is like country but with an orchestral quality. Add a bit of surf, jazz, and a punkish abandon and that begins to describe the indescribable.
Advance tickets are available for their next show with Silent C on Friday February 27.
