tankhouse aleSpring Festival Of Small Breweries

The Results Are In...

From a lager made with Maple sap instead of water (Heritage Maple Bush Lager) to True North Double Oatmeal Treacle Stout to a beer called Durham Hop Addict, our Second Annual Spring Festival was full of surprises and featured some very imaginative work from our local breweries. Thirty-six creative creations from twenty-six breweries were available for sampling. Twenty-five of these brews were new to C'est What.

A panel of three dozen beer aficionados (in plain English, "beer geeks") from bartowel.com got together at C'est What three days before the event to preview ten of the more interesting offerings. They picked five "must taste" beers for festival goers: Mill Street Tankhouse Cask Ale, Durham Hop Addict, Church-Key Bier de Garde, Church-Key Pale Ale, and Black Oak Whiskey Barrel Aged Nut Brown Ale.

At the event, nearly two thousand samples were poured and from the score sheets submitted we can summarize:

  • Following up on their victory in our festival last September with their filtered version of the brew, Mill St. Tankhouse Cask Ale finished at the head of the pack with a median score of 43 out of 50. If they can repeat this result at our next festival we will have to retire Tankhouse to our Hall Of Fame along with our first inductee, St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout. Wellington County Special Pale Ale (casked and dry-hopped), and Black Oak Whiskey Barrel Aged Nut Brown Ale both received scores of forty or more and qualify for honourable mentions.

More commentary and the full table of scores is available here.

World Cup Soccer starts June 9

For one month every four years the world is united in their love of "the beautiful game". Forget war, politics, and work for a while: Join hundreds of millions around the globe and goof-off for an afternoon to watch a match. We will be showing the games at noon and 3 p.m. daily during the first round and will show all of the "round of 16" games. Just tell the boss it's a "cultural exchange" program that won't cost the Company a cent (unless they want to spring for a couple of pints).

Armed with an acoustic guitar and his aching gravely drawl, twangy troubadour Shannon Lyon effortlessly shows the way to where the true path of alt-country lies. Somewhere in the heart of Canada.

With rave reviews like; “...an acoustic jewel in high standing”... or “ ...Shannon was the solo gunman who filled the room with a stunning set of music that lovers love to and broken hearts break to...”, it’s the purity and rawness of Lyons songwriting and delivery that are touching audiences and critics alike.

If you’re interested in being totally blown away by the power of song, catching Shannon live is highly recomended.

Shannon Lyon will be appearing on Saturday June 24. Show time 10:30, Admission is "first come, first seated for $7.
