canadian waiterMenu Renovations

Every autumn we try to take a long look at our food offerings to make sure they continue to match our stellar selection of beer, wine, and spirits. Well, it's a bit past autumn (we've been busy with the physical renovations) but we have come up with one of our most exciting menu changes in years.

Our theme of great value multi-cultural comfort food will be enhanced by the addition of a heart stopping Poutine, tasty vegetarian and Jerk Chicken Roti, authentic Tourtière, exotically spiced Moroccan Stew, a Spicy Coconut Stir-Fry, and Shrimp Spring Rolls. The long-time stalwart Chicken Satay moves over to the appetizer menu and the Calamari goes from the deep fryer to the sautée pan in garlic, white wine, and herbs.

Give the new items a try and let us know what you think - we think that you will be as pleased as we are with these new twists.

Winter Warmers Tasting Results

beer barrelOn February 21, 2007 fifty hearty souls each poured nine unknown fluids down their throats in search of winter beer enlightenment.
When the "blindfolds" were removed there were a number of surprised participants and a some new favourite brews.
Although the lowest in alcohol at 5.5%, the Black Oak Double Chocolate Cherry Stout was judged to be the "bomb" with a median score of 43 out of 50. The Amsterdam Tilted Kilt Scotch Ale and Great Lakes Winter Ale were also well enjoyed, both garnering an excellent rating of forty. The surprise entry of the two-year old Mill St. Barley Wine 2004 met with mostly positive (but mixed) reviews generally proving the preservative powers of alcohol.

The full table of results is available here.

Those with day jobs may be reluctant to check out a show during the week. Not to fear, here at C'est What shows start within fifteen minutes of their advertised time, and most weekday shows wrap up by 11:30. Enjoy!

Roz Bell

I'm Roz Bell. I grew up in Toronto, still live here. Queen St. West. I started writing songs when I was 10 yrs. old. I got in the studio and started recording them when I was 13. I was a rapper when rap was good. Now Im more of a singer/songwriter. I just finished my debut album and it sounds somewhere between a Maroon 5 hit and a Police album. Modern Urban Pop. I like to think of it as a modern day Bill Withers or Hall and Oats album. I love those guys. Bruce Springsteen, too. And Sam Cooke. I love a well written pop song. I sing, I rap, I play guitar. Check out what I got cooking...

The Flints

theflintsThe Flints independently released There Used to Be a Time, a five-song EP recorded at Hallamusic in Toronto in the Fall of 2005. The EP leverages such talent as guitarist Tim Bovaconti (Ron Sexsmith), pianist James Grey (Blue Rodeo), and cellist Kevin Fox (Sarah Slean). There Used to Be a Time showcases the Flints original songs in a warm, full production that features vintage organ, cello, fiddle, trombone, and Mellotron, woven amongst piano, guitar and harmonized vocals. Produced by Terence Gowan and engineered by Hallamusics Peter Hudson, There Used To Be a Time is available in select Toronto stores and online at LiveDownloads.com and CDBaby.

With no label affiliation and only word of mouth behind it, The Flints debut has generated exciting response on Canadian campus and community radio charts, notably rising to #1 at Londons CHRW-FM for two weeks in 2006. Buzz has also been growing in the blogosphere ("Bursting at the seams with catchy tunes and witty lyrics, Each song has its own unique flavour, but somehow it all works together as being a whole")

Sat March 17 with Special Guest Stella Panacci . Show time 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $6.00, available at the door or in advance online.

Matt Humphreys CD Release

Growing up in a Northern Ontario town, this singer/songwriter brings a folk/roots vibe to his brand of adult contemporary pop. His creativity abounds in songs that speak of growing up, finding new love, or learning life's mysteries. Carson's Grove, the lead track from Matt's new 4-song EP, takes us to a fictional place where the worries of everyday life need not apply. "Cruise down to Carson's Grove, just sit back enjoy the show and try to make some sense of all our dreams." Matt's voice soars over his simple guitar playing and draws us into his world.

Saturday March 24 with guest Willie Myette. Show time 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $7.00, available at the door or in advance online.
