Steve Hagen
Focusing
on a lush, atmospheric hybrid that combines the rough, and
forever cool, edge of the Beats and the smoothness of funky
acid-jazz, local singer/songwriter Steve Hagen cites
a "hopeful angst" as inspiration. The result of this muse
are languid compositions showing off fluid, ornate harmonies
as well as eclectic soundscapes with a spacey vamp vibe.
While poetic and pensive textures filter their way through
the easy grooves, Hagen's smooth voice stands above the rich
orchestration in a quiet stillness. The songs are an
intimate inner stream of consciousness, a plush and tasteful
channelling of something spiritual, personal and
original.
Hagen
is joined in performance by guitarist Justin Abedin,
bassist Ian DeSouza, Bryden Baird on trumpet,
and Davide DiRenzo filling out the ensemble on drums
and percussion.
