Hot Five JazzmakersThey are back with a "bang" on Saturday September 20th for the Fall 2008 season.
Show times are still 3-6 pm but again sessions will be bi-weekly (see dates below)

Saturday Dates in 2008September 20th October 4th & 18th November 1st; 15th & 29th (Mick Lewis guests on Nov 1st) December 13th & 27th Saturday Dates in 2009January 10th & 24th; February 7th; 14th & 21st; March 7th & 21st; April 4th & 18th; May 2nd; 16th & 30th June 20th (tbc) In conjunction with the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival. February 14th 2009 will be a special occasion for the Hot Five Jazzmakers, as it will mark the completion of twenty years of Saturday matinees at "C'est what?" __________________________________________________________________________ Their style derives from the pre-depression era covering classic and revivalist jazz, spirituals, blues, and ragtime. Their jazz reflects formative artists such as Armstrong, Morton; Waller and the like. A good natured delivery and guest appearances by touring traditional jazz and blues musicians have helped develop a solid regular following that makes each performance a social event.
In New Orleans they were awarded the Freedom of the City. They have toured North Germany twice, and have been featured at France's prestigious Marciac Jazz Festival. They have also represented Canada at the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival in Scotland and enjoyed Caribbean jazz cruises with their fans. Their regular matinee line-up is: Bryan Day - string bass; Andrej Saradin - cornet; Janet Shaw - clarinet, alto & baritone saxes plus piano; Jamie Macpherson - banjo and Brian Towers - trombone/ldr. Other regular members of the group for public concert performances, are Jordan Klapman - piano and Glenn Anderson - drums. |
