Rae Spoon Rae Spoon is a 21 year old “new skool folk’ artist. Cowboy-Folk that’s armed to the teeth with punk rock attitude, strong ethical stances and a deep and unabashed respect for the artists our grandparents should have loved, (if they were a little more smitten with outlaws).
Continuing in the long-standing tradition of singers who have one hand gripping their guitar, the other hand tugging at heartstrings and their feet planted firmly in the grassroots movement, and with influences such as Tom Waits, Woodie Guthrie and Hank Williams, Rae adds a unique and youthful perspective.
Since bursting onto the scene in the spring of 2001, Rae Spoon has been winning over unsuspecting audiences and rapidly building a loyal and dedicated following. Over the last 2 years, she has performed at numerous large festivals, including North Country Fair, Under The Volcano Festival, and the Vancouver Folk Festival. Rae has also shared the stage with such artists as Ember Swift, Kinnie Starr, Melissa Ferrick, The Be Good Tanyas and Bitch & Animal.
Having added some fine banjo playing (a twist on traditional bluegrass style) to the repetoire, Spoon has a live set that goes from slow waltz-like melancholy to a swaggering outlaw attitude to an outright hoedown.
The spring of 2001 saw her independent EP "Honking At Minivans" creating a buzz while April 2003 is the release date of Spoon's debut full length “Throw Some Dirt On Me”.
