 Runcible SpoonRuncible Spoon with Leah State combine the sonorous sounds of strings with the contrast of clarinet, piano
and voice creating diverse textures and melodic colors.
Based in a jazz flavour, this innovative quartet also draws from klezmer, folk and gypsy influences arriving at something musically eclectic drawing their muse as easily from tradition as from blazing a newer musical trail.
The group combines the talents of five unique women
whose backgrounds vary from classical and jazz to pop
and free-form music.
Pianist Tania Gill is very
active in the Toronto music scene and has performed
with such diverse musicians as Phil Dwyer, Terry
Clarke, Jerry Fuller, Gordon Downie and Mary Margaret
O'Hara. She has recorded and toured with The
WoodChoppers Association, Deep Dark United and One
Step Beyond.
Violist Pamela Bettger free-lances in both the classical and pop music scenes. Having leant her talents recording
with Jane Siberry, The Rheostatics, Wide-Mouth
Mason and performed with John Alcorn with Strings and was a member of the Boris Brott Orchestra.
Monica Fedrigo is a jazz and classical cellist with past experience as a jazz acoustic bassist. She has worked with Hugh Fraser, John Alcorn with Strings and her jazz string
trio Mirobolus, while recording with VEJI (Vancouver Ensemble of Jazz ImprovisationS, Kenny MacLean
(Platinum BlondeS and Lindi.
Julia Hambleton has performed with Bob Wiseman, The WoodChoppers Association and St.Dirt Elementary
School.
