The Robber Who Robbed The Town

Here's the scoop... It was a dirty November night in Toronto, when five musicians met for the first time. They assembled in a small basement studio, having been rounded up by a team of outgoing film producers to record "funky jams". Unbeknownst to them, these "funky jams" were to be used in upcoming pornographic films. These first recordings were misplaced by the producers, and never saw the big screen. That was of little consequence to the quintet, soon to be known as THE ROBBER WHO ROBBED THE TOWN.

For five months THE ROBBER stayed in the studio and recorded jingles, soundtracks, and full out rock songs. Their first indie release, "Underwater" is an amalgamation of the highlights from those sessions. Canadian indie heroes NO RECORDS reformatted and re-released underwater as the bands self titled label debut in 1999. That was followed up by a cross Canada tour in 2000 that brought THE ROBBER from the Marquee in Halifax, to the Backstage Lounge in Vancouver, turning heads all along the way.

2001 was a great year for THE ROBBER, with lots of shows, and the release of the limited print "The Thief E.P."
This snappy, six-song endeavor has won the praise of many respectables, including Noah Shilkin, international guru of pop. He has already put his best production foot forward with The Robber. Five fabulous tracks were recorded live off the floor at Umbrella Music in Toronto this July. Three of these classics will appear shortly on the Brumby Music sampler, slated for a late autumn release. Ears to the ground kids, ears to the ground.
