Okay, so maybe we exaggerated a little in saying that national pride was on the line in our last international whisky tasting on January 29, 2002. The choices were limited and the time was short. But that has never stopped the Olympics from making a big deal out of what they present. We will say this for our judges though, they genuinely like what they do and appreciate a fine performer no matter where it hails from. It
may still come as a surprise to single malt
drinkers that the two Irish whiskies both finished
on the podium. A rye whisky from western
Canada,Tangle Ridge, finished tied for first
while the east coast Scottish emulator Glen
Breton Single Malt was deemed to be not quite
ready for competition finishing a distant

This, to English speaking people, sounded like
"uishgi" and over time was corrupted to "whisky."
