The 14th Annual Festival Of Small Breweries

The autumn ritual of our Festival Of Small Breweries was observed by hundreds of barley lovers on October 18, 2002. This year there were thirty-nine craft brews to choose from.

Here's a statistical summary of the evening's proceedings:

  • Best Of The Festival finished in a tie with our own C'est What Coffee Porter (cask conditioned) and the Amsterdam Frambroise both receiving a median score of 42 out of 50. St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout and Wellington Imperial Stout were the runners up at 41 points. Little fault was found in any of the thirty-nine sampled; the lowest score was a respectable thirty-one.
  • The Most Curious award for the most tasted beer goes to Robinson's Pumpkin Wheat. The crowds were eager to try Church Key Holy Smoke and Trafalgar Celtic Ale as well.
  • Every year there are few people that ignore all public service announcements and decide that they just have to try anything that we pour for them. This year the Kid In A Candy Store award honours Paul Sambla and Larry Lewis for rating all thirty-nine beers. As always, we assure any and all moral authorities that they followed C.C.C. (Clinton code of conduct) rules for festival tasting and did not actually swallow any beer.
  • Our crew awarded the Staff's Choice top three in a "blind" tasting, giving a sweep to McAuslan of Montreal. Finishing first was St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, followed by St. Ambroise Pale Ale, and McAuslan's Apricot Wheat.

Our thanks to our fine local brewers for producing such drinkable fare, our hard working staff, and to the diligent beer lovers who make this festival an annual success.
