Gin Tasting

If you were to make a perfectly dry martini which gin would you use? London or Geneva? English or Dutch? Daresbury's Quintessential Dry, Gordon's London Dry, Beefeater London Dry, Tanqueray Special Dry, Bombay Sapphire London Dry, Bols Geneva, Leyden Dry, or De Kuyper Geneva Blended?

A crack team of C'est What regulars and dedicated tasters explored this chilling question on Wednesday August 23, 2000 and came up with some answers that are sure to stir controversy.

As a whole, the tasters were more accustomed to the more reserved flavour of the London Dry style gins. The more assertive Dutch drew very mixed reactions. Two of the top rated spirits, Bombay Sapphire and Tanqueray were already regularly available at C'est What. The distinctive second place finisher, Bols Geneva, has since been added to our menu.
