Just
before St. Paddy's Day 2002 a stalwart crew of
tasters put Ireland's favourite beverage to the
test in a "blind" tasting. Guinness was compared to
an international field of seven other black
elixirs. The
answer to the question "Can Guinness back its
marketing muscle with flavour?" is "No." The
internationaly popular beer finished a distant
third to Montreal's St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout,
Canada's, and now argueably the world's finest
example of a stout. Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout
edged out Guinness for second place. median scores
