Uisge beatha or usquebaugh are two different spellings of the old Gaelic term for "water of life." This, to English speaking people, sounded like "uishgi" and over time was corrupted to "whisky."

taliskerThe Irish Whiskey & Cream Tasting

Due to a shortage of quality Irish whiskeys in the L.C.B.O. system, we added some Irish creams to our pre-St. Patrick's Day tasting on March 12, 2003. While they didn't conjour up the same enthusiasm for our panel as their thinner, more straight forward parents, the creams received complementary scores. It just proves that there is a drink for every occaision.

The value priced O'Darby finished on top of the creams, tied with Bailey's at 22 points

Black Bush was the run away winner of the traditional whiskeys with a median score of 25 out of thirty.

A week after the tasting we made a trip up to the new Summerhill Station store and found the highly regarded Red Breast and Bushmill's Single Malt but those will have to be put on our list and wait for another tasting.
